Today in 1954 President Eisenhower signed the Seaway Development Act. With the stroke of a pen he set the course for the Seaway to open to commercialE3-NY-LOCK shipping just five years later.

Today with just the stroke of a pen the U.S. and Canadian governments could begin to undo some of the damage the Seaway has caused in the almost six decades since. And it would start immediately.

The St. Lawrence River does not have to be one of America’s 10 Most Endangered Rivers.
